A funeral for four military personnel who were killed in the January 28 helicopter crash during a training exercise was held in Ho Chi Minh City on January 30.
The crash occurred at 7:23am on January 28 in Binh Chanh district, killing four crew members aboard the UH-1 which belongs to the Air Force Regiment 917 under the Vietnam Air Defence-Air Force Service’s Division 370.
President Truong Tan Sang, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, Defence Minister Phung Quang Thanh sent wreaths to the funeral.
Politburo member and Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Le Thanh Hai, on behalf of the city’s authorities and people, expressed profound condolences to families of the deceased.
Following the memorial service, the dead were cremated in Binh Hung Hoa cemetery and buried in their home province of Nghe An.
In honor of their meritorious service, the Defence Ministry agreed to posthumously promote three of them to a higher military rank and raise salary to one another.-VNA
