Hanoi (VNA) – At least 2,765 communes (equivalent to 31 percent) and 38districts nationwide will be recognised as new-style rural areas by the end of2017.

It was set in the 2017 working agenda of the Central Steering Committee for NationalTarget Programmes issued by the Prime Minister.

The main task of the committee is to review and report to the Prime Ministerthe completion of documents related to the creation of legal grounds for theimplementation of national target programmes.
The committee is alsoasked to increase the monitoring implementation of each national targetprogramme, ensuring efficiency and fulfilling socio-economic development goalsin 2017.

The national programme on building new-style ruralareas, initiated by the Government in 2010, includes 19 criteria onsocio-economic development, politics and defence, aiming to boost rural areasof Vietnam.

The criteria cover infrastructure development,production capacity improvement, environmental protection and cultural valuepromotion.-VNA
