A delegation from the Vietnamese government’s Special Task Committee, led by Deputy Defence Minister Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Thanh Cung, is currently visiting Laos from June 7-11.
On June 8, Sen. Lt. Gen. Cung held talks with his counterpart, Lieutenant General Chansamon Channhalath.
The two sides exchanged their views on the search for and repatriation of the remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and specialists who laid down their lives during the war in Laos .
They also praised the close cooperation between the two committees.
Since 1994, thanks to the two committees cooperating with each other, the remains of 16,000 Vietnamese soldiers have been repatriated.
In the dry season of 2012-2013, Vietnam will continue to send personnel to Laos to search and gather the remains of Vietnamese soldiers.
Both agreed to commend outstanding organisations and individuals in recognition of their efforts when searching for and repatriating the remains of soldiers to mark Laos-Vietnam Friendship Year 2012.-VNA
