Hailstorms, whirlwinds take heavy toll on Ha Giang province

Ha Giang (VNA) – Hailstorms accompaniedby whirlwinds and heavy rains wreaked havoc on some localities of the northernmountainous province of Ha Giang on April 22.

The phenomena, caused by the combination of acold spell and seasonal transition, triggered serious damage to local houses,crops and public infrastructure facilities in the districts of Hoang Su Phi,Xin Man, Yen Minh, Dong Van and Meo Vac.

In particular, whirlwinds affected 810 houses,with Xin Man district suffering the heaviest damage as 229 houses were completelyunroofed. 

Total damage across the province is estimated at2.2 billion VND (93,200 USD).

Then Van Tien, Secretary of the Party Committeeof Xin Man commune in Xin Man district, said the hailstorms and whirlwinds alsodevastated a large area of maize, rice and fruit crops.

Local authorities said facing the adverseweather conditions’ consequences, the People’s Committees of the impacteddistricts have taken prompt actions to address the aftermath and stabilisepeople’s lives./.
