Ham Luong bridge opens in Ben Tre

Guests at theceremony included Deputy Prime Minister Truong Vinh Trong and Ministerof Transport Ho Nghia Dung, as well as senior Party, governmental andlocal officials.

The bridge’s opening is intended to celebrate the 50 th victory of theDong Khoi (General Uprising) (Jan. 17) in Ben Tre province and themillennium anniversary of Thang Long-Ha Noi.

The 1,280 m long bridge, which locates on National Highway 60, spansthe Ham Luong river to link Ben Tre’s city and four districts of Mo CayNam, Mo Cay Bac, Thanh Phu and Cho Lach.

Construction work began on April 1, 2007 with an investment of nearly 787 billion VND from the government budget.

The Ham Luong bridge is expected to open to traffic on the occasion of35 th anniversary of the Liberation of the Southern Region and NationalReunification (April 30).

Once operational, the bridge will contribute to accelerating thesocio-economic development of not only Ben Tre province but also itsneighbouring province of Tra Vinh as the distance between the provinceand Ho Chi Minh City will be shorten by 60km along National Highway 60./.

Remains of Vietnamese fallen soldiers, experts repatriated from Laos

The remains of 12 Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts, who laid down their lives in different periods in Laos’ Savannakhet province, were repatriated following a handover ceremony on May 21. They will be re-buried at the Road 9 National Martyrs Cemetery in Vietnam's central province of Quang Tri on May 22.

Nghe An reburies martyrs' remains repatriated from Laos

Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Phung Thanh Vinh said that carrying a noble international duty, many Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts heroically joined Lao people in their struggle for national liberation and independence. Many of them sacrificed their lives in the country, including more than 12,000 soldiers laying down in the three provinces of Xaysomboun, Vientiane, and Xiangkhouang.

19 localities eradicate substandard houses
