Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee signed a decision on July 29 to establish a Tourism Department separate from the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

The new department will be headquartered at 17 Dien Bien Phu Street, Dien Bien ward, Ba Dinh district, Hanoi and will have one director and three deputy directors.

The structure of the department includes a general office, an inspectorate, a travel management office, an accommodation office and a planning, research and development office.

The department will function as a consultative agency, helping the city’s People’s Committee manage tourism activities and carry out assigned tasks.

The new agency is also undertaking measures to preserve, use and develop tourism resources, sites and the environment.

It also has a responsibility to come up with plans and tourism promotion programmes and hold fairs, conferences and exhibitions approved by the city.

Since the beginning of this year, Hanoi has welcomed around 10 million tourists, up three percent against the same period last year, 1.5 million of which are international tourists.
