Hanoi highly values ADB’s support in infrastructure development

Hanoi(VNA) – Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Chu Ngoc Anhappreciated the Asian DevelopmentBank (ADB)’s support in the capital city’s infrastructure development overrecent years while hosting ADB Country Director in Vietnam Andrew Jeffries onNovember 4.

Anh hoped the twosides would continuebolstering the bilateral partnership so as to promote the bank’s contributions to the development of Hanoi’s criticalinfrastructure and Vietnam’s growth at large.

Highlighting thecity’s breakthroughs in urban transport infrastructure, the Chairman thanked the ADB for financing its two keyurban railway projects – Pilot light metro line connecting Nhon (Bac Tu Liem District)and Hanoi Railway Station, and Metro Rail Extension Project connecting HanoiRailway Station and Hoang Mai district.

Briefing hisguest on the progress of the metro projects, he said despite challenges posedby COVID-19, Hanoi coordinated with contractors to soon complete the projects.He also expected the bank’s close cooperation to speed up the progress.

Jeffries, for hispart, said the ADB stands ready to back Hanoi’s efforts in developinginfrastructure and to assist the capital in other areas in the coming time.

The bank giveshigh priority to the city’s metro projects, he noted, adding that it wants tosupport the capital in key areas, such as wastewater treatment, urban lighting,and smart city.

Chairman Anhassigned the municipal Department of Planning and Investment to coordinate withother agencies in translating Jeffries’ proposals into reality./.
