Hanoi launches electric bus tour of old quarter

A pilot project to operate 12 electrically powered buses around Hoan Kiem Lake and in Hanoi's Old Quarter for tourists was launched on July 17.
A pilot project to operate 12 electrically powered buses around HoanKiem Lake and in Hanoi's Old Quarter for tourists was launched on July17.

The service, run by the Dong Xuan Joint Stock Co, will start from astation in Dinh Tien Hoang street to take tourists around Hoan KiemLake, or the Lake of the Returned Sword, and to guild streets, foodcourts and historical relics in the Old Quarter.

The operation hours during the day will be from 8.30 am - 4.30 pm andfrom 7 pm - 11 pm and a ride cost 15,000 VND (0.8 USD).

The Old Quarter, situated near the equally historic Hoan KiemLake, was created in the 11th century, when the 100-hectare area washome to 36 guilds, each of which gave its name to a street. Thus, thereis a Hang Bac Street which was once home to silversmiths and a Hang MamStreet named for fish sauce.

There are 4,000houses here, a fourth of which are more than 100 years old. Theproject is to promote beautiful images of Hanoi, further develop thecity's tourism industry and to celebrate the upcoming 1,000thanniversary of Thang Long-Hanoi./.

Excavation for war remains begins in Quang Ngai
