The 2012 Hanoi Run for Children took place on the bank of Thien Quang Lake, Hanoi, on December 2. The annual event raises money to treat children with cancer and heart disease.

Initially part of the Terry Fox Run, the event became the Hanoi Run for Children in 2009 to attract greater participation and financial support to provide treatment for sick children from underprivileged families.

This year’s event was attended by nearly 7,000 people and raised 1 billion VND. The money will be used to treat poor children at the Hospital of Pediatrics , the Hanoi Heart Hospital and the Heart Beat Vietnam Programme.

Proceeds from the 2009 and 2010 runs have helped 70 child heart patients regain a normal life.

The event was jointly held by the Canadian Embassy in Vietnam, the Vietnam-Canada Friendship Organisation and the Hanoi Union of Friendship Organisations.
