The Hanoi People’s Committee approved a 3.6 million USD project on improving public transport in Hanoi (Trahud II) with support from Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) on Feb. 20.
JICA will provide non-refundable aid of 3.5 million USD in the form of technical assistance.
The Trahud II project aims to increase the number of people using public vehicles and make public transport services more friendly and comfortable thus reducing traffic jams in Hanoi .
The project will also carry out pilot programmes on raising policy making and planning capacity for public transportation and infrastructure development as well as communication campaigns to improve people’s awareness of public transportation.
It will be completed in 2014. - VNA
