Hanoi (VNA) – The forest protection department of the Mekong Delta province of Hau Giang released two reticulated pythons back to nature at the Lung Ngoc Hoang Nature Reserve in Phung Hiep district on August 14.
The python reticulatus are a rare species in classification Group II, which consists of those restricted from exploitation or use for commercial purposes, according to the Government’s Decree No.32/2006/ND-CP on management of endangered, precious, and rare forest plants and animals, as well as Appendix II of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES).
In early August, the forest protection department in Long My district also let free an owl, of the tyto alba species.
Head of the forest protection department in Hau Giang Nguyen Vinh Phuc said the province has released a number of wild animals such as turtles and snakes back to their natural environment since the beginning of 2018.
The same day, wild animal protection centre Four Paws Viet coordinated with the forest protection department from the northern province of Thai Nguyen to save two moon bears (or ursus thibetanus) weighing over 100kg found from a local household in Thai Nguyen city. –VNA
