HCM City (VNA) - Leaders of Ho Chi Minh City and Houaphan province of Laos reached consensus on cooperation plans and orientations in various fields for 2017-2020 during their talks in Vietnam’s southern largest economic hub on March 14.
Accordingly, the two sides will maintain the exchange of visits, aiming to nurture and promote the traditional friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the two Parties ad States in general and between HCM City and Houaphan in particular.

Regarding economic cooperation, they agreed to make it easy for departments, sectors and enterprises of the two localities to increase investment in infrastructure development, agriculture and tourism, as well as calling for investment from a third country into HCM City and Houaphan province.
The leaders also consented to promote stronger cooperative ties in education, health, communications and tourism.
HCM City will consider providing the Lao locality with 10 higher-education scholarships a year and organising training courses for Houaphan’s public servants in the fields of foreign affairs, foreign investment management, and commercial administration. In return, Houaphan will grant two scholarships for Lao language training courses to HCM City every year.
Secretary of the HCM City’s Party Committee Dinh La Thang stressed the city always is pleased to witness socio-economic achievements achieved by Houaphan in recent years.
He expressed his belief that the Lao locality will successfully accomplish the set goals, contributing to the province’s development.
For his part, Vansay Phengsumma, Governor of Houaphan and Secretary of the provincial Party Committee, thanked HCM City for its support to Houaphan, especially in infrastructure and economic development, education and training.
He suggested HCM City continue to assist Houaphan in its economic development process, and encourage HCM City’s enterprises to expand investment in the Lao province in the coming time.-VNA
