HCM City moves to better serve tourists

Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee Le Manh Ha has allowed the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism to coordinate relevant agencies to operate tourist information directory enquiries (number 1087) on a trial basis for two months.

Calling 1087,tourists will be supplied with information and answers for theirquestions about tourism in the City. The line is open 24/7, usingVietnamese and English.

The line also provides information ontravel security (which is in coordination with the hot line of themobile police,) information on tourism policy, tourism products,business travel, and others.

According to the HCM CityDepartment of Culture, Sports and Tourism, this will be also aneffective tool for implementing tourism promotion in the city.

The city authorities have also required the Department of Informationand Communications in collaboration with relevant agencies to developinformation systems and travel information stations throughout thecountry.

Robbery and fraud against tourists has been on therise in HCM City, affecting the reputation of the tourism industry andthe image of the city.

The local Department of Foreign Affairsreceived 222 complaints relating to robbery and home burglaries lodgedby foreigners while HCM City police recorded 117 cases related toforeigners, mainly robbery in 2012.-VNA

Vietnam to waive visas for citizens from 12 countries

The resolution clearly states that citizens of Germany, France, Italy, Spain, the UK, Russia, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland will be exempted from visas for a temporary stay period of 45 days from the date of entry, regardless of passport type and purpose of entry, on the basis of fully meeting the entry conditions as prescribed by Vietnam’s laws.
