Hanoi (VNA) - Charter flights connecting 11 Russian cities to the south-central province of Khanh Hoa’s Nha Trang tourist city will resume operations from March 16th after a nearly three-year suspension, signaling a major revival for Vietnam's tourism industry.
The 11 Russian cities are Moscow, Barnaul, Tomsk, Ekaterinburg, Krasnoyarsk, Novokuznetsk, Khabarovsk, Novosibirsk, Blagoveshchensk, Vladivostok, and Irkutsk, said General Director of Anex Vietnam Trading & Tourism Co., Ltd. Nguyen Duc Tan.
Anex Vietnam is partnering with Azur Air to operate these routes using modern Boeing aircraft, including the 757, 766, and 777 models. Each flight will carry between 238 and 531 passengers, depending on the aircraft type.
The frequency of flights is set to increase dramatically over the coming months. March will see 12 flights while the number is set to rise to 50-55 monthly flights from April through June, before reaching 90-100 flights per month from July onward.
The inaugural flight in this new chapter will depart from Irkutsk and land at Cam Ranh International Airport on March 17 with 238 tourists on board, marking the official return of the Russian tourism market to Vietnam.
Russian tourists will stay at three- to five-star accommodations for five days or longer.
According to Tan, the move aims at restoring and expanding international tourism, particularly Russian travelers - once a key tourism source of Khanh Hoa province.
Beyond Nha Trang, charter flights to Phu Quoc will also be launched, offering Russian tourists more attractive options when visiting Vietnam.
Last year, Khanh Hoa hosted more than 105,000 Russian tourists, accounting for nearly 23% of the figure in 2019 when the COVID-19 pandemic had not broken out yet.
The province eyes to welcome 11.8 million tourist arrivals this year, including 5.2 million foreigners, and gain 60 trillion VND (2.35 billion USD) in tourism revenue./.
