HCM City, Vientiane seek to foster partnership

HCM City (VNA) – Secretary of the Ho Chi MinhCity Party Committee Nguyen Van Nen and Secretary of the Party Committee andChairman of the People’s Council of Lao capital of Vientiane Anouphap Tounalom discussed ways to promote all-round cooperation between the two localities duringtheir talks in HCM City on December 11.

Nen congratulated Vientiane on the city’s achievements ineconomic development and Party building, and underlined that HCM City leadersare always proud of its friendship, cooperation and mutual support with Laolocalities, with many friendly collaboration activities and delegationexchanges, contributing to promoting the ties between the two Parties andcountries.

The HCM City leader affirmed that the city will continue tostrengthen economic, social and cultural collaboration with Vientiane, andcreate favourable conditions for businesses of the two localities to seek tradepartnership opportunities.

Meanwhile, the city will continue to pay attention toeducate the youth on the friendship between the two Parties and countries,while assisting Lao students in the city.

For his part, Anouphap Tounalom said that the Vientiane delegation’svisit aims to further foster the friendship and comprehensive cooperationbetween the two Parties, States and peoples, and discuss specific cooperationroadmap for the two localities.

He said that although this year, Vientiane is likely to postan economic growth of 5.3%, the city has stull faced many difficulties andchallenges, including high inflation rate, human resources shortage, anddecline in investment and production. Therefore, Vientiane is in need ofexperience sharing to overcome difficulties, said Tounalom.

Like Vietnamese localities, Vientiane also needs specialpolicies serving its development and untangle bottlenecks in mechanism, hestated, asking for HCM City’s sharing of experience and support during thebuilding and piloting of regulations on special mechanisms for Vientiane.

For bilateral future cooperation orientations, Tounalom proposed that HCM Citycontinue supporting Vientiane in implementing a project to develop beef cattle breedsand seek selling market for beef.

He suggested that HCM City assist Vientiane in building acentre for social support, and cooperate with the city in speeding up theproject to build a trade-tourism centre to promote trade exchange between thetwo sides.

The Vientiane leader also asked for HCM City’s support in resumingthe friendship and cooperation agreement between HCM City’s District 5 andVientiane’s Sikhottabong district after a temporary suspension due to COVID-19./.

National Assembly (NA) Vice Chairman Tran Quang Phuong, member of the National Election Council, asked Quang Tri to continue implementing all steps in line with legal regulations, including establishing election teams within the timeframe prescribed in the election law, and organising the 2nd and 3rd consultative conferences to finalise the lists of candidates no later than February 20, 2026.
