Ho Chi Minh City wants to cooperate with universities in the French Seismological and Geodetic Network (RESIF) in studying and seeking solutions to issues related to transport, water and climate change.
Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Le Hoang Quan made the statement at a reception on November 19 for 14 visiting rectors of RESIF universities.
He highly valued the RESIF’s establishment of an Asian centre for water research in Ho Chi Minh City, saying that it will facilitate the city’s studies on impacts of on climate change and rising sea level as Ho Chi Minh and Vietnam in general are vulnerable to these issues.
The RESIF delegation head Prof. Aebischer, who is President of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne stated that Vietnam is now the only representative of the RESIF system in Asia.
He affirmed that the RESIF is willing to work together with the city authorities to cope with climate change and rising sea level, as well as send scientists and postgraduates to the city to solve water-related issues.-VNA
