Hoa Binh (VNA) – Recent heavy rains and devastating floods in the northern mountainous province of Hoa Binh caused a total loss of about 1.63 trillion VND (71.75 million USD).

As of October 19, the disasters, lasting from October 9-12, left 46 deaths, injured and missing. Twenty-nine bodies have been found.

The majority of public works in the locality were damaged, while over 3,100 houses were collapsed and submerged by floodwater. As many as 905 households dealt with landslides and were evacuated.

Meanwhile, nearly 2,700 hectares of rice, 3,242 hectares of maize and crop, and over 1,000 hectares of fruit trees were inundated.

Currently, all evacuated families have been provided with safe temporary shelters and received support in food, medicine and other necessities.

Continuous downpours from October 10 triggered floods and landslides in Vietnam’s northern and north central regions, causing huge human and property losses.

As of October 16, floods in some northern mountainous and central localities killed 75 people, injured 38, left 28 others missing and forced 2,604 households to evacuate.-VNA
