Hoang Sa, Truong Sa documents come to rural people in Hai Duong

More than 2,000 book titles and hundreds of precious photos and documents on Vietnam’s seas and islands are on display at the fifth Vietnam Book Day and an exhibition on the Hoang Sa (Paracel) and Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelagos in the northern province of Hai Duong.

Hai Duong (VNA) – More than 2,000book titles and hundreds of precious photos and documents on Vietnam’s seas andislands are on display at the fifth Vietnam Book Day and an exhibition on theHoang Sa (Paracel) and Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelagos in the northernprovince of Hai Duong.

The fifth Vietnam Book Day and theexhibition of ancient maps and documents providing historical and legalevidence to affirm Vietnam’s sovereignty over Hoang Sa and Truong Sa Islandsopened at Ninh Giang High School in Ninh Giang, a rural district of Hai Duong,on April 20.

The exhibits include ancient documents inNom (Vietnamese ideographic script) from Le to Nguyen dynasties (about 15th to 19th century) and the royal records of Nguyen Dynasty(1802-1945), which showed Vietnam early established and exercised sovereigntyover Hoang Sa and Truong Sa.

There are also photos of Hoang Sa andTruong Sa archipelagos under the times of French domination and the Republic ofVietnam as well as the daily life of soldiers and people in the islands today.

The exhibition also showcased photos and documents on Hai Duong’s efforts toprotect the national sea and island sovereignty.

The book day and exhibition will open topublic until April 24 with free admission and tour guides. They are held by theprovincial Departments of Information and Communications and Culture, Sportsand Tourism in partnership with Ninh Giang district.

In 2014, thePrime Minister decided to take April 21 as Vietnam Book Day in connection withthe debut of the Book “Duong Kach Menh” (The Revolutionary Path) by PresidentHo Chi Minh, the first work written in Vietnamese and printed by Vietnameseworkers (April 21, 1927).

On April 18,the national-scale fifth Vietnam Book Day was launched at Thong Nhat Park inHanoi, featuring over 100 pavilions of nearly 80 publishers nationwide andshowcasing 50,000 book titles of various genres.-VNA

Le khao le the linh Hoang Sa (Feast and Commemoration Festival for Hoang Sa Soldiers) is often organised in the second and the third lunar months. It reflects Vietnam’s history of protecting the national sovereignty in the East Sea, especially over Hoang Sa and Truong Sa.
