India’s President regards Vietnam as strategic partner

During their meeting in Hanoi,the Indian President expressed his deep appreciation for Vietnam’ssupport for India at regional and international forums, and highlightedthe progress the two sides have made in a number of fields during theimplementation of their strategic partnership since 2007.

He saidhe believed both sides would boost their bilateral cooperation,benefitting both sides, due to the large potential for working togetherin more areas.

For his part, General Secretary Trong welcomedMukherjee’s visit to Vietnam, saying it showed the President and the newgovernment of India continued to place importance to developing thetraditional friendship and strategic partnership with Vietnam.

Heexpressed his wish that the two countries continue to expand andstrengthen cooperation in all fields, from politics, economics, culture,education, science and technology to people-to-people exchanges.

TheParty leader suggested the two sides increase mutual coordination andsupport at multilateral, international and regional forums.

Hecalled on India to continue supporting Vietnam’s stance on regional andinternational issues, including the peaceful settlement of disputes inthe East Sea in compliance with international law, taking account of theUN Charter, the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea,the full implementation of the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties inthe East Sea (DOC), and the prompt establishment of a Code of Conduct inthe East Sea (COC).

Trong affirmed Vietnam’s support for India’s oil and gas exploration and exploitation in the East Sea.

Hesuggested the two countries’ governments, ministries and localitiesactively implement the strategic partnership in all fields, particularlywith regard to economics, trade, national security, science andtechnology, and education and training, including the early launch of adirect air route between Vietnam and India.-VNA

To further strengthen Vietnam-Belgium relations, especially parliamentary cooperation, both sides agreed to enhance delegation exchanges at all levels, particularly between parliamentary committees and friendship groups. They also pledged to share legislative and supervisory experience, coordinate positions in international organisations, support each other’s candidacies for UN bodies, and effectively implement the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA).
