Indonesia, China cooperate in digital technology

This was the centre of discussion between Indonesian Communications and Digital Affairs Minister Meutya Hafid and visiting Secretary of China’s Nanning Municipal Party Committee Nong Shengwen on March 25.

Jakarta (VNA) – Indonesia and China are expanding cooperation in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) to promote digital transformation, especially in the fields of agriculture and smart cities.

This was the centre of discussion between Indonesian Communications and Digital Affairs Minister Meutya Hafid and visiting Secretary of China’s Nanning Municipal Party Committee Nong Shengwen on March 25.

Hafid highlighted that China is Indonesia's largest partner in the field of digital infrastructure, adding that this cooperation has supported connectivity to remote areas of Indonesia through 4G and 5G technology, contributing to promoting comprehensive digital transformation.

In addition to developing telecommunications infrastructure, Indonesia also expressed its interest in expanding cooperation in AI with Nanning City - one of the leading cities in AI application in China.

According to Hafid, Nanning has successfully built a smart city model, owning a strong startup ecosystem and a potential human resource in the field of digital technology.

The Indonesian minister affirmed that Indonesia is ready to cooperate with various countries, including China, to develop AI technology. Jakarta aims to create 9 million highly capable digital talents in AI by 2030, to meet the growing demand in the digital age.

For his part, Nong welcomed the proposal to strengthen collaboration in creating technological innovations. He emphasised Nanning’s readiness to lend full support, including policies and facilities, to Indonesian companies to participate in the city's innovation ecosystem./.
