Rome (VNA) – The Great 1975 Spring Victory of Vietnam spread the spirit of optimism to all oppressed nations, according to Honourary Consul of Vietnam in Turin and Genoa Sandra Scagliotti, who is an expert on Vietnamese studies.

The victory on April 30, 1975 marked the end of the 21-year resistance war against the US, as well as the 30-year struggle for independence and national defence since the 1945 August Revolution, thus contributing to the complete reunification of Vietnam.

Talking with the Vietnam News Agency, the scholar said the Vietnamese Revolution had a profound impact on the global political balance in the second half of the 20th century, while creating a ripple effect worldwide amidst the crisis of the old colonial regime.

Vietnam contributed to affirming that the ideology of peace was the new frontier of the US culture: from the eruption of anti-racism movements in the ghettos of African Americans in major US cities, to uprisings on university campuses, and the widespread phenomenon of draft dodging during military conscription, she said, calling it one of the most significant influences of the victory.

She held that since the victory in 1975, the Vietnamese people, under the sound leadership of the Party, have built a constantly developing country with an increasingly respected position on the international stage. In recent decades, Vietnam has achieved high economic growth, and the standard of living for its people has improved significantly.

On the international stage, Vietnam has succeeded in many fields, which won the recognition of the United Nations and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). It is a member and partner of major international organisations and forums such as ASEAN, the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM), the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), the UN, the Group of Seven (G7), and the Group of Twenty (G20). Additionally, Vietnam has affirmed its position as a valuable centre in many regional and global economic links.

Alongside the sacrifice, bravery, and cleverness of the entire nation, military strategy and flexible diplomacy were undoubtedly two of the most important factors leading to the Great 1975 Spring Victory. Diplomatic skills helped Vietnam manage both bilateral and multilateral relations, thanks to its exceptional flexibility, as well as its seriousness and determination, affirmed Sandra Scagliotti./.
