Jakarta (VNA) - Indonesia is making preparations for Eid Al-Fitr (Idul Fitri), one of the most significant celebrations of the Muslim community slated for March 31, with an anticipated 146 million citizens participating in the annual "mudik" homecoming journey.

The government has implemented measures to ensure stable prices and adequate supplies before Ramadan and particularly for Idul Fitri. Essential commodities including rice, cooking oil, sugar, and meat have seen increased supply to meet heightened holiday demand.

To ensure safe, convenient, and smooth travel during the holiday, the Ministry of Transportation officially launched the Eid 2025 Transportation Command Centre. This unit will address traffic-related issues during the year's longest holiday, when the surge of people returning home typically creates immense pressure on transportation infrastructure.

With some government and private organisations implementing work-from-anywhere (WFA) policies, many people are expected to leave cities earlier than in previous years.

The ministry has prepared various transportation modes to serve the homecoming flow with a total of 30,451 buses, 772 ships, 404 aircraft, and 2,550 trains.

The government has also introduced incentives and support policies to facilitate hometown travel, including average airfare reductions of 14% compared to previous rates, up to 20% discounts on road tolls, and free homecoming programmes.

The Indonesian National Police (Polri) has deployed over 164,000 personnel for "Operation Ketupat" to ensure smooth traffic during the celebration. It also established 2,835 security posts to protect 126,736 important locations, including stations, ports, airports, and tourist destinations.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health has planned to support citizens during the holiday by offering free health examination at medical stations established at train stations, ports, and airports./.
