Jakarta (VNA) – The Indonesia Asian Games Organising Committee (INASGOC) and Jakarta authorities have vowed to strengthen security for the 18th Asian Games (ASIAD 18), the largest regional sport event to be held in the country in August, following a series of recent terrorist attacks in Surabaya.
INASGOC Chairman Erick Thohir said the committee has worked with the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) and the National Cyber Encryption Agency (BSSN) to enhance coordination in deploying measures to ensure security and safety during the Games, which is expected to see the participation of over 15,000 athletes from 45 countries and territories.
INASGOC has also joined hands with the National Agency for Combating Terrorism to make plans to prevent risks of terrorist attacks during the event, he said, adding security checks on reporters and spectators will be tightened.
According to Jakarta Deputy Governor Sandiaga Uno, the municipal authorities will hold regular meetings with INASGOC on this issue and install 6,000 cameras to strengthen security supervision.
Earlier, the committee announced the establishment of three security checks from entrance gates to stadiums and competition venues at the upcoming ASIAD, which will take place in Jakarta and Palembang cities from August 18 to September 2.
