Indonesia, Turkey enhance cooperation

Jakarta (VNA) – Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi and her Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu agreed to enhance cooperation in economics and terrorism prevention between two nations.

The Indonesian Foreign Ministry said it was the result of the two ministers’ meeting on the sidelines of the meeting of Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) foreign ministers, which is underway in Istanbul, Turkey.

In a bid to increase bilateral trade, the two countries agreed to implement economic cooperation content reached at the Indonesia-Turkey Joint Committee’s meeting, the Indonesian Foreign Minister said, given that two-way trade in 2015 was less than in 2014.

The two ministers mulled the development of the economic partnership between two countries and reviewed progress of collaboration in strategic industry, defence and medium sized tank development.

They also discussed the fight against extremism and terrorism while asserting the importance of smart data exchanges.

Turkey became a strategic partner of Indonesia in 2011. It is the 7th largest trading partner of the Southeast Asian nation with bilateral trade value of 1.4 billion USD in 2015.

Turkey landed 3.9 million USD in investment in Indonesia last year.

Some 6,000 Indonesian nationals visited Turkey in 2014 while Indonesia welcomed about 58,000 travellers from Turkey.-VNA
