Jakarta (VNA) – Indonesia hosted the Trilateral Technical Experts Group (TTEG) meeting on the safety of navigation in the Straits of Malacca and Singapore from October 23-24.

Established in 1975 by Indonesia, Singapore and Malaysia, the TTEG aims to boost cooperation in maritime safety, environmental protection, and facilitating vessel traffic in these crucial straits.

Director of Navigation of the Directorate General of Sea Transportation under the Indonesian Ministry of Transport, Budi Mantoro, highlighted that the three nations have effectively collaborated and implemented initiatives like vessel movement regulations, the Traffic Separation Scheme (TSS), and the Straitrep reporting system, all recognised by the global maritime community.

Indonesia also shared recent findings on maritime safety and plans to restore the Marine Electronic Highway (MEH) data centre. The 15th Project Coordination Committee meeting was also held to coordinate ongoing joint projects, including developing guidelines for vessel shelters, enhancing maritime safety, and creating standard operating procedures for using virtual navigational aids./.
