Indonesia wins first Paris Olympic 2024 gold

Indonesian speed climber Leonardo clinched a gold medal in the men’s speed climbing at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris on August 8, a historic Olympic title for Indonesia and also the first for the country in this year’s Games.

Hanoi (VNA) – Indonesian speed climber Leonardo clinched a gold medal in the men’s speed climbing at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris on August 8, a historic Olympic title for Indonesia and also the first for the country in this year’s Games.

The 27-year-old athlete defeated China’s We Peng by 0.02 second, scaling the 15-meter wall at the Le Bourget venue in 4.75 seconds.

Meanwhile, US speed climber Sam Watson walked away with a bronze medal despite setting a world record of 4.74 seconds in his last race.

On August 5, Gregoria Mariska Tunjung brought the first medal, a bronze in badminton, to Indonesia at the Games.

Indonesia has become the third Southeast Asian country to win gold at Olympics 2024, together with the Philippines and Thailand./.
