An international anti-drug conference for the Far East Regional Working Group opened in the central city of Da Nang on December 5.

All 19 members of the Working Group are attending the two-day event, including Australia, Brunei, Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, Macau, Indonesia, Japan, Laos, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, New Zealand, the Philippines, the Republic of Korea, Singapore, Timor Leste Thailand and Vietnam.

The conference reviews drug prevention activities that have taken place in the Far East region since the last conference that was held in Thailand in April, 2012. The conference will approve the members’ reports on the fight against drug crime, and propose measures to improve the efficiency of the group’s drug prevention activities.

Participants are to debate approaches to build a mechanism for regional nations to share information to combat cross-border drug crime, which will strengthen solidarity, friendship and comprehensive cooperation among regional forces.

They will also share information on the growing use of Methamphetamine and new types of drugs, and proposed cooperation programmes and plans between countries and territories to prevent future drug crime.-VNA
