Hanoi (VNA) - Experts hold that the definition of the rights of each side in the intellectual property relations is very important in minimizing the conflicts that may arise, creating a healthy intellectual environment.

The World Intellectual Property Day (IP Day) 2019 was held with the theme of “Protecting Intellectual Property”.

In Vietnam, in order to encourage the contributions by the intellectual property to the development of culture and art, raise the community’s perception on the intellectual property rights, the Motion Picture Association of America (MPA), An Sinh group and partners held a chain of activities in response to the IP Day 2019.

A conference on the intellectual property protection was held in the afternoon of April 23 at the American Center (No. 170 Ngoc Khanh street, Hanoi), with invitees coming from the US Embasssy and the MPA. Besides, the programme also saw the presence of speakers who are prominent figures in the fields of art, technology and law; Director Viet Tu, Mme. Pham Ngoc Mai Anh – CEO ADT Creative, Lawyer Quach Minh Tri (Baker & Mckenzie), and Lawyer Phan Cam Tu.

At the conference, Trade Counselor of the US Embassy in Vietnam Robert Gabor took note of the spirit for reform of Vietnamese people. He said there are now many ideas that the intellectual property is one of the development pillars and he totally agrees with that. Intellectual reform is one of the factors of top importance for a country to achieve progress in the supply chain, he asserted.

On that basis, the US Embassy representative held that in order to encourage intellectual property reform, those who dare to reform and raise creative ideas as well as their products need to be protected.

Stressing the role of the intellectual property, Director of the IPCom Vietnam Tran Thi Tam affirmed that IP plays an increasingly important role in the social and economic development of the states and is becoming a common concern of the whole world, especially in the period of explosion of creativity. Products from the creativity and the utilization of the IP rights from the creativity have caused intensive and extensive influence on the human life, she stressed.

The director held that the digital economy is causing a comprehensive impact on the social life, changing the habits and behaviours of the consumers, changing their ways of entertainment and selection of entertainment products, and the majority of those products are based on the digital platform.

The definition of the rights of each side in the intellectual property relations is very important in minimizing the conflicts that may arise, creating a healthy intellectual environment. The raising of perception on the intellectual property right needs to be accelerated in the time to come.

Within the framework of the chain of activities in response to the IP Day 2019, a programme of cinematography (free screening of the “Captain Marvel”) will be held in the evening of April 23 at the Discovery Complex (No. 302 Cau Giay street, Hanoi)./.

In order to encourage creativity and protect the creativity, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) has designated April 26 (the day on which the WIPO Convention took effect in 1970) as the World Intellectual Property (IP) Day.
