Da Nang (VNA) – The Jade Buddha for Universal Peace is being worshiped at Nam Hai Pagoda in Lien Chieu district, the central city of Da Nang – one of its last destinations before returning to Australia.

The statue was received with a ceremony on June 4 in the presence of a number of Buddhist dignitaries, monks and followers, along with local officials.

The statue was carved from an 18-tonne jade block and sits on a 1.4m-high alabaster throne. It is 2.7 metres high and weighs 4 tonnes.

Visitors can admire the statue at Nam Hai Pagoda until June 19, during which preaching sessions, requiems, and worship ceremonies for national and global peace and prosperity will be held.

Meanwhile, Nam Hai Pagoda will cast a bronze statue of the Lord Buddha. The statue, 5 metres high and weighing 5.5 tonnes, will be the biggest bronze Buddha statue in Da Nang.

The city is a destination in the statue’s tour of 90 cities in 20 countries around the globe.-VNA
