Senior officials from 21 member economies of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum convened in Hiroshima , Japan , on Feb. 22 to discuss measures to boost free trade and investment in the region.

The two-day meeting opened for a series of activities in Japan , which holds the APEC chairmanship for 2010.

The meeting focused on developing a free trade area in the Asia-Pacific region and outlining an economic growth strategy for all APEC members.

The APEC senior officials also reviewed the implementation of the Bogor Goals on trade and investment liberalisation.

This year’s APEC leaders’ summit will be held in Yokohama in November.

Estalished in 1989, APEC groups together Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Peru, the Philippines, Russia, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, the United States and Vietnam./.
