(Source: VNA) HCM City (VNA) – The Japan-Vietnam Friendship Parliamentarian Alliance always pays heed to boosting multifaceted cooperation with Vietnam, particularly in climate change adaptation, said special advisor of the group Takebe Tsutomu.
Takebe Tsutomu, who is former minister of agro-forestry-fishery, made the statement at a meeting with Secretary of the Party Committee of Ho Chi Minh City Dinh La Thang in the southern economic hub on March 14.
The parliamentarian group is studying a proposal on building a centre for natural disasters prevention in cooperation with Vietnam, he added.
Appreciating support from Ho Chi Minh City in organising Vietnam-Japan cultural festivals during the past years, he asked local leaders to consider changing the time of the next festival in 2018 to the end of January, citing reasons of weather.
Agreeing with his guest on altering the festival schedule, Thang stressed closer coordination between the Vietnamese and Japanese sides is needed for a larger scale event next year to celebrate the 45 years of bilateral ties between the two countries.
Acknowledging contributions of Takebe Tsutomu to the establishment of the Vietnam-Japan University, Thang noted that education cooperation could bring practical and long-term benefits for both nations.
Chairman of the Nidec Corporation Shigenobu Nagamori, another Japanese guest at the meeting, thanked the municipal authorities for supporting the operation of the group in the city and promised more investment to come.
The Japanese-based motor manufacturer has so far invested 1 billion USD in Vietnam and hired some 20,000 local workers.
Shigenobu Nagamori revealed the company’s plan of setting up research & development centres in Vietnam and sending Vietnamese engineers and workers to Japan for training with a view to using them as managers of Nidec subsidiaries in Vietnam.
For his part, Thang stated the city always welcomes Japanese investors with favourable conditions and mutual benefits for all parties involved.
He said he expects further investment and cooperation from Nidec in Ho Chi Minh City, contributing to the Vietnam – Japan strategic partnership.-VNA
