Hanoi (VNA) – The National Fund forVietnamese Children (NFVC) on September 19 teamed up with AIA Life InsuranceCompany in Vietnam to present 70 bicycles, gifts, and five life insurancecontracts each worth 20 million VND to 75 poor students in the central provinceof Khanh Hoa.

The donations, worth a total of 250 million VND, werepart of the “Real Life Journey” campaign which consists of 13 charitable eventstaking place across the nation this year. The campaign is expected to presentabout 3,000 bicycles and 100 free life insurance deals for impoverishedchildren nationwide.

Founded in 2014, the “Real Life Journey” programme hostsa series of charitable cycling events which has given away nearly 7,000bicycles to children living in difficult circumstances across 50 cities andprovinces in Vietnam.

In Vietnam, there are just over 200,000 children who haveto drop out of school each year due to a lack of transportation access toschool. With schools beyond walking distance, many families also cannot afforda bicycle to get them to school each day.

According to statistics by the Ministry of Labour, WarInvalids and Social Affairs, many students living in remote areas have to walk5-10 km, or even more, each day to get to school. They have to get up at 4am eachmorning just to get to class on time.

This challenge has tremendous impacts on their academicresults and the possibility of them continuing their studies in the future.

The donors hope that each bicycle will bring the studentsgreater opportunities to pursue education and have a better future.–VNA
