A Pali primary school has been inaugurated at Sro Lon pagoda in My Xuyen district, the southern province of Soc Trang.
Built at a total cost of nearly 2 billion VND (95,000 USD) the Khmer architectural style school includes four classrooms and other functional rooms.
Venerable Lam Chanh, head of Sro Lon pagoda, said that the new facilities will help improve the teaching quality for the pagoda’s monks in training and provide them with fundamental knowledge for further study in the future.
Sro Lon receives between 80 and 100 students from across Soc Trang and other localities every year.
The province now has 92 Khmer pagodas and a Pali supplementary school, which trains monks for Khmer pagodas. Students have to complete primary courses at pagodas to be admitted to the supplementary school.-VNA
