Lam Dong (VNA) - The CJ Group ofthe Republic of Korea (RoK) on December 27 granted 115 scholarships, worth atotal 500 million VND (21,500 USD, for excellent but impoverished students inthe Central Highlands province of Lam Dong.

The scholarships are part of the group’sannual programme to demonstrate its corporate responsibility to society, thegroup said in a statement.

Over the past six years, the CJ Group hasgranted more than 600 scholarships to poor pupils and students in the provinceto help them cover their tuition and living expenses.

The group said it will expand the scope ofscholarships to students in other provinces and areas where it is doingbusiness.

During a meeting with National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan in the RoK early this month,leaders of the CJ Group emphasised the importance of community service andcommitted to volunteer activities for the Vietnamese people.

Since the establishment of a representativeoffice in Ho Chi Minh City in 1998, the CJ Group has expanded to more than 17business lines including food and food ingredients, animal feed productionand animal husbandry, breeding animals and entertainment. To date, the grouphas invested about 880 million USD in the Vietnamese market.-VNA
