Laos will pursue its plan to build a seven-billion-USD high-speed railway line connecting its capital Vientiane with the Chinese Kunming city.

Deputy Prime Minister Somsavat Lengsavad made the affirmation while fielding questions at the ongoing 9 th sitting of the Lao National Assembly, highlighting the the project’s positive impacts as the nation becomes part of the ASEAN Community at the end of this year.

According to him, the 417-km railroad has widely received approval from Chinese ministries and agencies except for the Finance Ministry and is expected to enhance Laos’ global links at reduced costs.

As planned, the railroad will also connect with Thailand and be part of the regional Kunming-Singapore railroad, which has a total length of 3,000 kilometres.-VNA
