Kuala Lumpur (VNA) – Malaysian authorities rescued 22 people, including 12 tourists from China early on June 24, about 16 hours after their catamaran capsized off Pulau Mantanani, according to the New Straits Times Online.
The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) found them tied together and floating near Tanjung Dudar and brought them to shore at about 8.30am.
MMEA Chief First Admiral Zubil Mat Som said they were checking if two others were still missing.
He said those rescued were 12 Chinese tourists, four guides and the others local residents, eight women and 14 men in total.
The 22 were taken to Kota Belud where medical teams had been waiting to provide them assistance.
The vessel, on its way back to the Kuala Abai jetty from Pulau Mantanani Island, last made contact with the authorities at 11pm on June 23.
