Kuala Lumpur (VNA) – Over 1 million voters in the Malaysian state of Sarawak on May 7 went to 1,754 polling stations to elect 82 seats in the State Legislative Assembly.

The ruling Barisan National (BN) coalition is expected to continue leading the state. The coalition’s leaders set a goal of gaining 70 out of 82 seats.

In the previous election in 2011, the BN won 55 out of 71 seats.

Sarawak and Sabah, the other state on the island of Borneo , helped the ruling coalition to maintain power in the 2013 general election.
