The PMunderscored the importance for Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia in theInternational Tripartite Rubber Council (ITRC) to continue workingtogether to support the council revive the rubber price.
At a press conference on the sidelines of his meeting with Thai PrimeMinister Prayuth Chan-ocha at Putrajaya, Najib said both countries,along with Vietnam, agreed about efforts to raise the rubber price aswell as finding solutions to encourage the use of natural rubber inother new products.
Najib also said that he and hisThai counterpart had discussed about joint development strategies forthe border area, including establishing rubber cities in order topromote the natural rubber industries in both countries.
According to Douglas Uggah Embas, Minister of Plantation and Goods,the three ITRC countries account for around 67 percent of the totalvolume of the global natural rubber, while Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar andVietnam altogether hold a share of 13 percent.-VNA
