Malaysia, Thailand vow to tighten border security

The 52nd meeting of the Malaysia-Thailand General Border Committee came to a success with both pledging to intensify boundary security.

The 52nd meeting of the Malaysia-Thailand General Border Committee cameto a success with both pledging to intensify boundary security.

Theevent took place in Bangkok on January 29 under the chair of MalaysianDefence Minister Hishammuddin Hussein and his Thai counterpart PrawitWongsuwon.

In a joint statement, Hishammuddinsaid discussions focused on the security situation along the sharedborder of the two countries, as well as measures to deepen theirbilateral ties.

Both sides also agreed tocoordinate in addressing transnational crimes, such as goods and drugsmuggling and international terrorism.

The twoministers underscored the importance of unity as a foundation forefforts to promote peace and security and boost economic growth.

The Malaysian official affirmed that unity between ASEAN memberstates plays a vital role in realising a politically cohesive,economically integrated and socially responsible ASEAN Community.

The next meeting will be held in Malaysia next year.-VNA
