Malaysia’s King Muhammad V steps down from royal position

Malaysia’s King Muhammad V has abdicated the throne, palace officials has confirmed.

Kuala Lumpur (VNA) –
Malaysia’s KingMuhammad V has abdicated the throne, palace officials has confirmed.

The resignation took effect from January 6,according to the palace.

Muhammad V was crowned and became the 15thmonarch on April 24, 2017.        

The palace confirmed the resignationwith immediate effect of the 49-year-old, who had been on thethrone for two years. 

Malaysia is a constitutionalmonarchy, with a unique arrangement where the throne changes hands every five yearsbetween rulers of the nine Malaysian
