Kon Tum (VNA) - Authorities in the Central Highlands province of Kon Tum have arrested a man for transporting approximately 3 kilograms of drugs from Laos to Vietnam in the area of Iec village, Po Y commune, Ngoc Hoi district, the province's Border Guard Command reported on December 31.
The trafficker, Tran Thanh Tung, originally from Quy Nhon city in the central province of Binh Dinh, admitted that he had been hired to transport the contraband, which is a white solid crystalline substance, through the border area of Kon Tum by a woman, for 15 million VND (590 USD).
This is the largest seizure of illicit drugs in Kon Tum for 2024, the provincial Border Guard Command said, adding that the investigation is ongoing.
The case is part of local authorities' efforts during the peak month for crime crackdown before, during, and after the Lunar New Year holiday./.
