Minister reviews quality of civil servants

Minister of Home Affairs Nguyen Thai Binh clarified questions on the quality and appointment of officials and cadres at a National Assembly (NA) question-and-answer session in Hanoi on November 18.

Binhattributed the widespread appointment of deputy heads, which led towasteful spending of the State budget, to the huge workloads taken on bysuperiors. He promised the number of deputy head positions at alllevels would be regulated in future.

He also acknowledged the negative results of the assessment of recruitment procedures and working performance.

The ministry is working on a plan to recruit around 1,000 outstandinggraduates and young scientists to the Party and State institutions,armed forces and State-owned enterprises between now and 2020, Binhrevealed, adding that a draft decree to recruit talented individuals tothe State apparatus is currently being developed.

Turning hisattention to the increased lay-offs from the State payroll, Binh askedeach agency and locality to reconsider its workforce structure anddismiss unqualified cadres.

Concluding the session, NAChairman Nguyen Sinh Hung demanded the ministry work with the Party andGovernment to rearrange the contingent of officials and cadres,accelerate administrative reforms and increase State supervision.-VNA

Vietnam, Italy agree on new cooperation directions

Both sides agreed to facilitate market access for key export products, and prioritise cooperation in investment attraction and technology transfer in emerging and strategic sectors such as new energy, renewable energy and automation, while continuing to strengthen existing cooperation in textiles, footwear, climate change response, electronics, culture and tourism.
