
Hanoi (VNA) – Gen. To Lam, Politburo member andMinister of Public Security, held telephone talks in the afternoon of October 30with Priti Patel, Home Secretary of the UK, on the coordination of work indefining the identities of the victims believed to be of the Vietnamesenationality, in the incident that 39 people were found dead in a containertruck in the UK on October 23.
During the talks, Minister Lam highlighted that theGovernment, the Ministry of Public Security and the people of Vietnam are veryattentive to and regret the incident in Essex county. Right after receivinginformation on the incident, the ministry promptly and proactively directed itsunits and localities to quickly conduct verification, collect information andstand ready to join hands with the UK side when requested.
The two sides also exchanged ideas on a number of relevantissues, and agreed on various important contents in the coordination.
Minister Lam thanked the secretary for her goodwill incooperating and sharing information on the incident. He also affirmed that theministry has been and will be continuing to closely cooperate with relevant authoritiesof the UK to investigate the case.
The verification of information and identities of thevictims is very urgent, that is why the ministry is ready to send working teamsto the UK to join hands with its police in investigating and verifyingidentities of the victims.
The minister asked that in the case that there areVietnamese among the victims, the UK side facilitate the citizen protection inline with the laws of the UK and Vietnam, as well as the international law andpractices. He also expressed his hope that the UK will take measures tostabilize security and safety of the Vietnamese citizens studying and workingin the UK, and that the two sides will boost their effective cooperation in thefields of mutual concern./.
