Hanoi (VNA) – The Ministry of PublicSecurity has deployed synchronous measures to curb the increase of crime in thefirst six months of this year, heard a press conference in Hanoi on June 28.

The ministry said social crimes were slashed by3.66 percent against the same period last year.

Police cracked down on 843 criminal gangs andhandled 9,391 economic and corruption cases, 2,053 smuggling cases and 3,160cases of manufacturing, storing, transporting and trading prohibited products.

They also captured 17,210 drug traffickers andseized 379,423 kg of heroin, 759,131 kg of methamphetamine and 436,115synthetic drug pills, and 251,306 kg of marijuana.

The traffic order and safety were ensured, with traffic accidents falling inthe numbers of cases, deaths and injuries.

Major General Bach Thanh Dinh, Deputy Directorof the Hanoi Police Agency, reported the illegal capture of people anddeliberate destruction of property in Dong Tam commune on April 15.

On June 13, the investigation body of the HanoiPolice Agency launched the criminal proceedings against the case to serveinvestigations into the charges of illegal arrest of people in accordance toArticle 123 of the Penal Code and destroying or deliberately damaging propertyas prescribed in Article 143 of the Penal Code, he noted.-VNA

Remains of Vietnamese fallen soldiers, experts repatriated from Laos

The remains of 12 Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts, who laid down their lives in different periods in Laos’ Savannakhet province, were repatriated following a handover ceremony on May 21. They will be re-buried at the Road 9 National Martyrs Cemetery in Vietnam's central province of Quang Tri on May 22.

Nghe An reburies martyrs' remains repatriated from Laos

Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Phung Thanh Vinh said that carrying a noble international duty, many Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts heroically joined Lao people in their struggle for national liberation and independence. Many of them sacrificed their lives in the country, including more than 12,000 soldiers laying down in the three provinces of Xaysomboun, Vientiane, and Xiangkhouang.
