Thirty-three disadvantaged children with eye diseases from the northern province of Bac Giang are undergoing free surgery at the Hanoi Eye Hospital.
The surgery, costing nearly 50 million VND, is sponsored by the Christian Fellowship Union of Canada, which plans to fund eye operations for 50 disadvantaged children in Bac Giang and Hai Duong provinces in May.
The operation is part of a programme by the Vietnam Fund for Support of Children called “For Children’s Eyes”, which was launched in 1998.
As of the end of 2009, the programme has helped 24,557 children with eye diseases nationwide get surgery with nearly 30 billion VND in funding./.
