Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Thanh Son has called on Vietnamese people living in New York to work more for the cooperation between Vietnam and the US, thus benefiting the development of their homeland.
Son, who is also head of the National Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs, made the appeal at his March 15-16 meetings with representatives of the Vietnamese community in the city.
At the meetings, overseas Vietnamese representatives expressed their desire to preserve and promote Vietnamese culture around the globe.
They also voiced their wish for Vietnam to devise more suitable policies encouraging young people to serve the country’s development and prosperity.
They called on relevant agencies at home to provide a sufficient number of highly skilled teachers and resources for Vietnamese language centres in New York.
Some said they plan to develop online Vietnamese language teaching projects with the support of local residents, providing audio and visual clips on the nation’s history and culture.-VNA
