Phnom Penh (VNA) - The solidarity and close relationship between Vietnam and Cambodia have become a rule and factor ensuring the sustainable development of each country, Vietnamese Ambassador to Cambodia Nguyen Huy Tang has said.

Talking to the Vietnam News Agency (VNA) and Cambodia's national news agency Agence Kampuchea Press (AKP) on the occasion of the 57th anniversary of the bilateral diplomatic ties (June 24, 1967 - 2024), Tang perceived that the two countries have obtained numerous outstanding cooperation achievements in recent years. They have always attached importance to the enhancement of the traditional ties between their Parties, States, Governments, and peoples.

They have also affirmed the respect for and full implementation of the agreements and treaties signed, along with the determination to build bilateral relations in accordance with the motto of "good neighbourliness, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation, and long-term sustainability" to keep their solidarity and friendship everlasting.

He stressed that the rapid, complex, and unpredictable developments in the world and the region are requiring the two countries and their peoples be closely linked to each other because objective geopolitical conditions make the security and stability of a country the other’s.

Noting the two countries still have an ample room and many opportunities to expand potential areas of cooperation that complement each other, he said that the 7th-tenure Cambodian Government has proposed many policies prioritising strong and comprehensive reform and promoting openness for economic and trade development, which will be a favourable basis to open up new investment chances.

In addition to promoting existing cooperation fields, the two sides also hold various opportunities to expand partnerships in the fields complementary to each other and new ones, further tap into the potential and strengths in relations between border provinces, and increase cross-border trade and tourism.

It is necessary to actively support businesses to overcome difficulties and obstacles, and help border localities promote trade activities, Tang stated, proposing efforts be made to soon build and shape a tourism cooperation mechanism between the three countries of Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam, diversify such tourism types as eco-tourism, resort tourism combined with medical treatment and experimental tourism, and linking road, air and rail transport.

The diplomat also mentioned opportunities to boost ties in science, green technology, export processing, high technology, and health. The two sides could also capitalise on the multilateral mechanisms to which both are parties to enhance opportunities and possibility of their cooperation with a third country.

In the spirit of positivity, proactiveness, and agility of businesses and investors, there will be more cooperation opportunities for the two countries, helping to promote bilateral economic ties and fuel two-way trade as desired by their high-ranking leaders, added the ambassador./.
