More Vietnamese consumers now prefer cashless and contactless payments to make the process faster, according to Visa.

HCM City (VNS/VNA)- More Vietnamese consumers now prefer cashless and contactless payments tomake the process faster, according to Visa.

The number of contactless transactions has been growing at 44 percent per monthsince July last year. The total value of purchases made using Visa contactlesscards increased by 43 percent a month in the same period.

Sean Preston, Visa’s country manager for Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos, said:“Vietnamese consumers, retailers and financial institutions are embracing theconcept of going cashless. We’re seeing very positive growth in the usageof Visa contactless payments as more consumers understand the benefits ofspeed, security and convenience that contactless payments can bring to theireveryday purchases.”

According to the Visa Consumer Payment Attitudes Report, which polled 4,000consumers in Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore,Thailand, and Vietnam in July 2017, more than half of consumers in Vietnamwere aware of contactless payments.

Around 30 percent have used contactless payments and two thirds are interestedin trying it.

Fashion and beauty products are the main items purchased using contactlesspayments.

Contactless technology is shifting the in-store payment landscape, opening upspace for consumer-centric innovation. Contactless payment provides a safer andmore convenient purchasing experience for customers and a more effectivesolution for issuers’ sales and customer satisfaction, and improves checkoutproductivity for merchants.-VNS/VNA

HCM City to use municipal budget for Metro Line No. 2 project

The Metro Line No. 2 project has an estimated investment of nearly 47.9 trillion VND (2 billion USD) and has nearly completed land clearance, at 99.8%. The NA’s Resolution 188 authorises HCM City to develop seven metro lines spanning 355 kilometres over the next decade, with preliminary total investment for the 2025-2035 phase estimated at 40.2 billion USD.

Conference looks to boost global standing of Vietnamese coffee

In the 2023-2024 season, Vietnam exported 1.47 million tonnes of coffee worth 5.42 billion USD, an 11.3% decrease in volume but a 33% increase in value as compared to the previous crop. Dak Lak alone shipped abroad over 264,400 tonnes valued at 915.8 million USD, accounting for 17.9% of the country's total volume.

EU not to impose tax, non-tax defensive measures on Vietnam

Central bank injects more than 5 trillion VND into market

On the OMO channel, the State Bank of Vietnam lent commercial banks a total of nearly 35.62 trillion VND with an interest rate of 4%. Last week saw a maturity amount of more than 33.5 trillion VND on the channel, so the SBV’s total net injection via this was 2.09 trillion VND. ​
