-Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh chaired a meeting between permanent Government members and the Standing Board of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee on April 16 to seek solutions to hindrances to local socio-economic development.
In his remarks, PM Chinh attributed some low indexes, including the GRDP growth, to different reasons, including slow disbursement of public investment, enterprises’ modest capital absorption, and the shrunken market.Read full text
-Vietnam considers the United States one of its leading important partners and wishes to promote the comprehensive partnership with the US on the basis of respect for each other's independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity and political institution, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said at a reception for US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on April 15.
The PM affirmed that Vietnam is consistent with its foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, peace, friendship, cooperation and development, diversification and multilateralisation of relations, active international integration; and being a friend, a reliable partner and a responsible member of the international community. -Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken shared the view that Vietnam and the US should continue with their cooperation and promote the bilateral ties on the basis of the principles agreed by their high-ranking leaders, during their talks in Hanoi on April 15.
They reviewed positive developments in the Vietnam-US comprehensive partnership over the past time, with two-way trade growing impressively, hitting 123 billion USD last year.Read full text

-Vietnamese Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son and United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken on April 15 broke ground on the construction of the new US Embassy in Cau Giay district, Hanoi.

-After 10 years since the establishment of the comprehensive partnership and almost 28 years since the normalisation of diplomatic ties, Vietnam and the US have built relations of dynamic and effective development, according to US Secretary of State Antony Blinken.
Talking to the press on April 15, Blinken, who has been on an official visit to Vietnam from April 14 to 16, said that he was in Vietnam at the behest of President Joe Biden to further broaden and deepen that partnership following the President’s phone talks with Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong last month and building on earlier high-level visits, including from Vice President Kamala Harris, Secretary of Defence Lloyd Austin, US Trade Representative Katherine Tai, USAID Administrator Samantha Power, and recently members of the Congress.Read full text
-A delegation of the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security led by Deputy Minister Major General Nguyen Van Long paid a working visit to Australia from April 10-15.

-Trade ties between Vietnam and Uruguay have still not been commensurate with the potential of the two countries, delegates heard at the third meeting of the Vietnam - Uruguay Joint Committee for Economic, Trade and Investment Cooperation held online recently in Hanoi and Montevideo.
Co-chairing the meeting, Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Do Thang Hai and Uruguayan Deputy Foreign Minister Nicolás Albertoni emphasised that it is necessary to promote the Vietnam-Uruguay cooperation within bilateral and multilateral frameworks, diversify the structure of import and export products, and step up trade promotion activities, connect and support their business communities to understand the market and find business opportunities.Read full text

-Insufficient transport connectivity is hindering the development of the Southeastern region – a key economic region, an important exchange hub in the south of Vietnam, according to a Politburo resolution.
The Southeastern region includes Ho Chi Minh City and the provinces of Tay Ninh, Binh Phuoc, Binh Duong, Dong Nai and Ba Ria - Vung Tau.
Politburo Resolution No. 24-NQ/TW dated October 7, 2022 on socio-economic development, defence and security in the Southeastern region to 2030, with a vision to 2045 clearly states insufficient infrastructure, particularly in transport, causes "bottlenecks" that adversely impact the region's development.Read full text/.
