- 2023 will be a year of forming and exploiting data to create new values,stated Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh at a meeting on December 25 to review oneyear of implementing a project on developing the application of populationdatabase, e-identification, and e-authentication for the national digitaltransformation in the 2022-2025 period with a vision to 2030 (Project 06).

- Participating in the United Nations (UN) peacekeeping activities represents anew development in the international integration capacity of the VietnamPeople’s Army.

Practice shows that Vietnamese officers and soldiers are fully capable ofintegrating and successfully participating in international peacekeepingmissions in a multinational, multilingual and multicultural environment; andcoordinating in multi-dimensional operations on a global level. Theseachievements come from the preparation and training of UN peacekeepers by theVietnam Department of Peacekeeping Operations under the Ministry of NationalDefence. Read full story

- A workshop to share experience between the National Assembly of Vietnam andthe Cambodian parliament took place in the central city of Da Nang on December25.

Vietnamese NA Vice Chairman Nguyen Duc Hai, who is also president of theVietnam-Cambodia Parliamentary Friendship Group, highlighted the fruitfuldevelopment of the bilateral relations between the two countries, sayingthat cooperation between the Vietnamese NA and the Cambodian parliamenthas been well maintained within the framework of bilateral and multilateralcooperation. - Construction of the third passenger terminal at Tan Son Nhat InternationalAirport in Ho Chi Minh City began on December 24.

- Vietnam is one of the top tourism destinations for Thai visitors in theupcoming New Year holiday, according to Yuthasak Supasorn, director general ofthe Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT).

The Thai official said the number of Thai tourists visiting foreign tourismsites is on the rise as many popular destinations have been reopening withoutrestrictions, adding that weaker currencies in those sites compared to the Thaibaht is also supporting the outbound tourism market. Hanoi, Vientiane promote comprehensive cooperation in new phase

The capitals of Vietnam and Laos signed memoranda of understanding on joint work in the fields of public communication and mass mobilisation, women and youth affairs, foreign relations, industry and trade, education and health care. These are expected to provide an important basis for implementing their cooperation priorities for 2026–2030.

In the new era, great national unity is not only a spiritual tradition, but also a national development capacity and a source of strength to unlock resources and creativity, create social consensus, and safeguard the country early and from afar. Unity now means respecting legitimate differences, harmonising interests, taking national interests as common ground, and rallying all patriotic Vietnamese around the aspiration to build a peaceful, independent, democratic, strong, prosperous, civilised, and happy Vietnam, the top leader said.

With the spirit of “Unity – Democracy – Innovation – Creativity – Development”, the Presidium called on delegates to uphold their sense of responsibility, solidarity, and wisdom, and contribute substantive and quality opinions on documents so that the congress would become a major milestone in the process of renewing and improving the VFF’s effectiveness in the new revolutionary period.
